O’s Notes: Mark sings jazzy ballads, scatting, crooning and bending blues where appropriate. He gets help from Barbara Morrison singing “Sweet Spot”, a solid blues number. Grant Riesman (g), Luis Conte (perc) and Billy Childs (d) are among the stellar cast of supporting musicians. Winkler gives us a taste of Latin on “Somewhere in Brazil” and “Some Other Sunset” then swings on “On Broadway”. He works his range well and pairs with his musicians well including a duet with guitarist Anthony Wilson on “There Hearts Were Full of Spring”. The program combines originals and standards in an enjoyable listening set of twelve tunes.
