O’s Notes: This is the final live performance of the legendary tenorist five days before his passed . It was the close of the Midsummer Night Swing Series at Lincoln Center on July 16, 2004. Jacquet plays with a large ensemble and there’s an abundance of swinging brass here! There are 2 CDs, one for each set and the music is fine. Illinois plays sax with many strong solos and even several vocals! The pace is varied from sultry ballads like “Blues From Louisiana” to the swinging pace of “Tickeltoe”. It’s a snapshot of Jacquet at sunset. This is what legends are made of.
