O’s Notes: Violinist Jason Kao Hwang composed the music and conducts the 37-piece string orchestra that performs Symphony of Souls. There are elements of rock, jazz and classical music with a large dose of improvisation. The dynamics are excellent, notably on “Movement Four” with the music getting chaotic at the extremes but with good harmony a keeping within the theme of the eleven selections. Hwang remains energetic and with a disdain for the rules but somehow keeps his listeners engaged!
