O’s Notes: Vayenas plays trombone. Kendrick Scott (d), Aaron Parks (p), Matt Brewer (b), Patrick Cornelius (sax), Janek Gwizdala (b) and Gretchen Palato (vocals) join him to form the band. They play syncopated music. It is neobop or fusion and feels right on either side of the jazz ruler. We really liked the groove of “Circuit Dialog” featuring one of Nick’s explosive solos. “The Essence” had similar elements with warm brass harmonies. We also liked the soothing feel of “Gone From Me”, the lone vocal track.
