O’s Notes: Saxophonist and composer Benn Clatworthy (fl, b-cl) leads System 6, a septet with Ron Stout (t), Joey Sellers (tb), David Reynoso (b), Bryan Velasco (p), Yayo Morales (perc) and Tyler Kreutel (d). The horn harmonies are sweet in front of a strong rhythm section performing 7 Clatworthy originals and 1 by Sellers. They have a unique sound that is curious on “The Studio” with excellent percussive work by Morales and Kreutel. Our pick is “WAFM”. Clatworthy has another winner with Tales From The Backyard!
