O’s Notes: Jerry’s signature is easy to identify. His phrasing is relaxed and deliberate. He’s got edge on his notes when needed and warm color when meaning to romance. While this is his debut on Savant, Jerry has been around for a while, learning from the masters of the sixties and performing behind Brubeck in the 1980s. He worked the New York scene and finally returned to Boston where he now teaches and performs with his band. They are a well-knit group with a fresh voice. These seven tunes are all original and fresh. Bergonzi has found his space and it sounds just fine.
