O’s Notes: Irene has a raspy voice with good tone and a lot of soul. It is complemented well with the sax of Dave Hubbard. Other artists who join her for this session include guitarists Melvin Sparks, Jimmy Ponder, Rodney Jones and Ronald Jackson. Listen to her gratitude on “Thanks To You” and the gutsy bite of “Soul Serenade”. Both are excellent examples of her soulful blues approach. While Irene has been on the New York scene for over 40 years performing on stage, she returned to recording in 1997 with Savant records. This is her 6th album since and it’s a winner.
