O’s Notes: This set comprises all of Garland’s trio studio recordings made in 1956. They were originally released on three separate albums. The trio is Paul Chambers (b), Art Taylor (d) with Red playing piano. Philly Joe Jones plays bass on “Ahmad’s Blues”. There are 13 tracks, all covers except “Blue Red”, an original blues number. Red is dancing across the keys in prime form hitting romantic and playful moods along the way. He displays his virtuosity with many fleeting solos. The set is an excellent picture of Garland with liner notes illustrating his life as well as the music.
