O’s Notes: Pianist Bobby Timmons could play bop and he could play funk. That combination led him to be at the forefront of soul jazz in the 1950s. He also wrote many tunes that stuck and are even popular today. Among the best are the mysterious “Dat Dere”, “So Tired” and perhaps the most famous, “Moanin'”. Frequently in a trio format, this collection features Bobby alongside Sam Jones or Ron Carter on bass and Jimmy Cobb, Art Blakey, Albert “Tootie” Heath or Connie Kay on drums.
