O’s Notes: Alto saxophonist Jon De Lucia leads a fine band for The Brubeck Octet Project. He rearranged the original, handwritten scores by Dave Van Kriedt, Dave Brubeck, and Bill Smith written for Brubeck’s Octet. Brandon Lee (t), Scott Robinson (t-sax), Becca Patterson (tb), and Jay Rattman (cl, b-sax) are the featured horns along with De Lucia. They capture the spirit of the Brubeck era. Jon promises to unearth more of these charts, so there is a possibility of a second volume.
