O’s Notes: Fats Waller was unquestionably one of the best ragtime/stride pianists of all time. Many have been influenced and inspired by his works. He was a true entertainer not only as a pianist but also as a singer. In the latter case he brought a lot of humor to his blues lyrics. He played his own material and gave life to some tunes that hadn’t sparkled originally like “Your Feets Too Big”. There are 21 songs here, a fitting collection to celebrate the year of his 100th birthday. It’s a nice peak into the music of a legend that is accentuated by a second disc (DVD) including rare footage that further illustrates the man and his music.
