O’s Notes: Cole Porter’s songbook has been sung by almost everyone. It’s great material but has been overworked unless the arrangements are unique, the music fresh and the vocalist is on top of their game. Patricia Barber steps onto center stage ready to take on the challenge. They place “Easy To Love” in a bossa nova setting and slow down the pace of “I Get A Kick Out Of You”. This allows Patricia to caress the lyrics and reframe these classics. She also tickles the ivory. Chris Potter (sax) adds sultry fills and Neal Alger (g) makes a strong contribution throughout the session. Other highlights are “Get Out of Town” and “I Concentrate On You”. Barber succeeds with her remix of Porter!
