O’s Notes: This is a set of warm, mellow ballads featuring pianist Eric Reed in a trio setting. Ben Wolfe in on bass and McClenty Hunter keeps time blending seamlessly with Reed. They play the music of Theloniois Monk in a relaxed ballad form. Eric’s arrangements are geared to his strengths while retaining Monk’s swinging style. The result is more rounded corners, a softening that makes the music easy to absorb. We especially enjoyed Eric’s dexterity on “Light Blue”.
