O’s Notes: We are generally pleased with the recording quality of ECM releases and this one is also exceptional. Eick’s trumpet is captured in all its glory without ear splitting peaks. Separation and imaging are very good with excellent tonal quality and space. That makes it easy to enjoy this peaceful fusion! Mathias is joined by Jon Balke (p), Audun Erlien (b, g) and Stian Cartensen (steel g). The program is mostly very relaxing instrumental ballads. They open The Door allowing listeners to enter their perspectives with a musical depiction. Our favorites were “Stavanger” and the title track.
