O’s Notes: Guitarist Leo Cavanagh make a tribute to the legendary Duke Ellington by arranging 16 of his popular tunes for an acoustic trio. Katrina Wreede (viola) and Carla Kaufman (cello) join him is a swinging session that has bluegrass elements. These are accomplished musicians that cast a different light on the popular jazz tunes. We enjoyed Leo on “C-Jam Blues”, Katrina on “Solitude” and Carla walking around “Take the A Train”. The sound stage is open giving us a clear view of all elements. It’s a different take but certainly worthwhile!
