O’s Notes: The Epic Botanical Beat Suite is a drum-based session of with songs written and arranged by drummer Adam Rudolph, the leader and mastermind of Hu Vibrational. This is the fourth outing for the band now with 7 percussionists, Eivind Aarset (g), Steve Gorn (fl), producer Bill on bass, and Alex Marcelo (p). The sound is not nearly as congested as suggested by the personnel but is a rather mindful endeavor with a rather spacey vibe and more structure than free jazz suggests. Deep, pulsating riffs are the cornerstone of each selection. The journey includes eight selections that leave listeners feeling as though they have been through a cosmic experience.
