O’s Notes: Dave Lalama sites the university environment for his continued inspiration and creativity. The university in question here is Hofstra in New York, the source of many fine musicians. Dave Pietro (sax, fl) and John Marshall (sax) are among the alumni represented here. The Hofstra Project is a dynamic large ensemble with featured solos around the horn and some fine work on piano by Dave. The program includes sweet arrangements of many fine classics with a couple of originals thrown in. Thelonious Monk, Thad Jones, Mingus and James Moody are some of the key influencers. It is a balanced and enjoyable session.
