O’s Notes: Shan plays guitar and displays some impressive techniques on the Jazz Beat Sessions. He plays in a trio format with bassist Jamie Gatti and Tom Roach on drums. They play seven of his originals and two covers of classics. The more we listed, the more we appreciated what was going on in this fresh set. We liked Arsenault’s blending of slow and fast runs to set the mood like on “Comeback”. We also liked his arrangement of Parker’s “Confirmation”.
