O’s Notes: The well renowned harmonica player Hendrik Meurkens presents The Jazz Meurkengers, performing straight ahead jazz in fine form. His core accompaniment is pianist Steve Ash, bassist Chris Berger and drummer Andy Watson. Guitarist Ed Cherry and tenor-saxophonist Nick Hampton join them on four selections each. Ash, Cherry and Hampton complement Hendrik’s melodies in a performance dedicated to the late Drummer Jimmy Cobb. Cobb’s groove is here over the nine selections, 5 standards and 4 originals. Of note are “A Lullaby For Benny” (Hendrik’s grandson), “Dreamsville”, “If I Were A Bell”, and “Smada”.
