O’s Notes: This was one of Buddy’s last filmed works in 1985. The legendary drummer has not lost a beat performing with his powerful large ensemble. They open with the fiery “Mexicali Nose”. The band is tight and features strong solos, notably Steve Marcus (sax). Rich is an outstanding timekeeper and also demonstrated precision on his solos working the entire drum set. His work on “West Side Story Medley” is extemporary! This was his signature-closing piece and it is captured here in full splendor.
