O’s Notes: Vitro selects her material from the songbook of Randy Newman, a well-decorated pop composer for several decades. His material fits her soft but powerful vocals, as does the violin of Sara Caswell. Mark Soskin (p) and special guest Steve Cardenas (g) are among the talented team who support this effort. The net effect is a warm dose of southern jazzy charm. She opens strongly with “Last Night I Had A Dream” and never lets up including soulful ballads like “Baltimore”. Roseanna is up front and personal on “Everytime It Rains” and also “Losing You”. This transformation of Newman’s material helps Vitro deliver a strong Motéma debut!
