O’s Notes: This is a well-recorded live set with an appreciative jazz audience. Greene plays hard with a great sense of dynamics. The beats become more syncopated as the program progresses and get downright nasty on tracks 4 and 5! Jimmy was right there with his band providing fierce sax attacks in sync with the beats. But it’s not all Jimmy as Kendrick Scott (d), Luques Curtis (b) and Xavier Davis (p) take invigorating solos throughout the set. The songs are all long enough for passionate exchanges, not just pyrotechnics! They wrap up with the peaceful warm tones of “I’ll Keep Loving You”. You may not have heard of Jimmy or his band but don’t worry, you’ll hear them again. These boys have a lot to say, musically.
