O’s Notes: Composer and saxophonist Benjamin Boone assembles a fine band to perform a jazzy backdrop for the poetic words of the late Philip Levine who made this one of his last recordings. Titled“The Poetry of Jazz, the stories are about jazz as well as many life experiences of Levine. Guest artists Chris Potter (t sax), Tom Harrell (t), Branford Marsalis (t sax) and Greg Osby (a sax) each participate on homages to legendary figures, Sonny Rollins, Clifford Brown, John Coltrane and Charlie Parker respectively. This is an enjoyable, educational and entertaining experience.
