O’s Notes: 48-year-old saxophonist Eric Alexander learned to play with passion during his early years in Chicago where blues loving patrons insisted on ‘feeling’ the music. That is the essence of The Real Thing, not at all a sterile set. Bassist John Webber, pianist Harold Mabern and drummer Joe Farnsworth join Eric to deliver a scintillating performance. We loved the smoky, mysterious blues on “Pure Pat” with special guest guitarist Pat Martino complementing Alexander all the way. The tempo changes to match the moods with “Sleep Warm” leaving us feeling cuddled and there are many other good selections. Once again Eric Alexander delivers a sure shot performance.
