O’s Notes: Jessie Cook plays guitar and was enticed by the Spanish combination of flamenco and rumba. He took this theme to Columbia where it takes a festive contemporary spirit and hence The Rumba Foundation is born. There are thirteen original compositions featuring Cook who displays excellent technique on “Improv 1” and “Improv 2”. “Manolo’s Lament” has a large bass giving us the feeling of dancing in the streets. This is a jovial album with a new twist on a combination that originated in the 1800s.
