O’s Notes: The University of Southern California Studio Jazz Band combines with the Symphony String Orchestra and Choir to form a powerful large ensemble. Legendary drummer, Louis Bellson leads the band playing a symphony of two parts. The first is a collection of 14 sacred songs composed by Bellson praising God. It was inspired by Duke Ellington, Bellson’s mentor who created a similar work in 1965. The Jazz Ballet follows. It is four instrumental songs focused on matrimony. Both are inspirational and powerful works.
