O’s Notes: Dan plays sax, oboe, flute, piccolo, Duduk and English Horn. He leads a large ensemble rich with reeds and brass. They blend classical music elements into a warm jazz caldron. We particularly enjoyed the feverish intensity of “I Idylle” with Ron Oswanski on the B3 and Pete McCann on guitar contrasting with the subtle country swing of “Third Gymnopedie” featuring Antoine Silverman (violin). The secondary (relaxed) groove is more prominent highlighted on “First Gnossienne” and “II Aubade”. They return to a racy fusion on “III Meditation” and “Olga Polka”, the latter with a dose of klezmer!
