O’s Notes: The Unity Sessions find guitarist Pat in a rather mellow mode but with the high energy and spirit of a live concert. In fact these are live recordings presented as a fair and legal alternative to all of the pirated U-Tube videos from concertgoers. The sound is great and the artist is being fairly compensated for his work! Chris Potter (sax, cl, fl), Ben Williams (b), Antonio Sanchez (d, Cajon) and multi-instrumentalist Giuio Carmassi are Metheny’s accompaniment and they all make significant contributions. The interaction between Metheny and Potter on “Cherokee” is exceptionally exhilarating! We also enjoyed the swinging groove of “Come and See”. These are just a couple of example over 15 tracks on two discs. Pat continues to be a reputable force on the jazz-fusion scene with this collectible release!
