O’s Notes: This is a collection of romantic music written by Johnny Mandel, Henry Mancini and Michel Legrand. Those composers are the ‘They’ in the title. Hagenbach is a wonderful vocalist who delivers on every track. She opens in front cool bossa nova beats for “Cinnamon and Clove”, a title that fits the mood for the entire session. Next Angela romances us with a sultry arrangement of “Slow Hot Wind”, the first track including the lush string section. The voicing on “Sure as You’re Born” allows Hagenbach to stand out with minimal accompaniment in certain passages. Her confidence and passion help make this an enjoyable recording. The supporting cast is equally adept especially guitarist Larry Koose and pianist Tamir Hendelman.
