O’s Notes: Benny and his band toured Europe in 1996 and most of the footage is from Jazz Fest Berlin! They open with “Are You Real” which includes solos from Geoff Keezer (p), Curtis Fuller (tb), Joe Farnsworth (d), Art Farmer (t), Golson (sax) and special guest vocalist Jon Hendricks who scats through a range of tones and effects that are masterful! Bassist Dwayne Bruno rounds out the team. They moved through blues, ballads and bebop keeping the program vibrant. Farmer did a fine job leading “I Remember Clifford”. There is also a bonus track of “Whisper Not” from the ’96 Scopie Jazz Festival that is outstanding. The video shots come from all angles and the close-ups are exceptional. This is one of the many View Video DVDs. They provide jazz lovers with a unique perspective and are great documents of some of the best live performances. The bonus audio, video and biographical information is actually quite good as well.
