O’s Notes: Pianist and composer Monika Herzig assembles a fine band of excellent female musicians who are all bandleaders! Make note however that Herzig is the leader and has The Whole World In Her Hands. That world includes bassist Linda Oh, Mayra Casales (perc), Jane Bunnett (sax) and Leni Stern (g). The program consists of mostly original material written by Herzig and her band mates. The collection is much more than a statement piece; it is good music, notably “Royals”, by great musicians that just happen to be women.
