O’s Notes: This is a reissue of a landmark recording by Hampton in 1989. It was his second recording with vocalist Sylvia Bennett who he discovered. It features Lionel playing some old and some new tunes in front of a large ensemble. Some the music has more of a contemporary jazz sound than most of his work but not escaping true jazz. The brilliance of his dexterity and innovation on vibes is legendary. It is certainly a performance that is worthy of the title.
