O’s Notes: The marriage of guitar with a large symphony orchestra seems unusual but McLaughlin’s execution is flawless. It is centered on three movements that are grand and powerful depicting a journey though time and life. John’s playing has a definitive Spanish bent, which is appropriate for the theme of the orchestration. There are also four standards featuring the guitarists of the Aighetta Quartet and bassist Helmut Schartlmueller. The selections are dedications to 4 pianists, Hancock, Corea, Evans and Rubalcaba. Each has had an influence on John. Collectively, this is a pleasant recording.
