O’s Notes: Houston plays a warm tenor sax with a large dose of passion. It’s based on over 50 of playing professionally. He brings life to eleven old standards, each an instrumental ballad. You won’t miss the words. John di Martino (p), Eddie Allen (t), James Chirillo (g), Ray Drummond (b) and Willie Jones III (d) round out the band. There is a lot of balance between them on “People” with its bossa nova beats. They swing on “Thinking of You” and play the blues on “Black Coffee” but these are mostly relaxing ballads. This set is ideal for a dinner party!
