O’s Notes: Terell plays trumpet and seems to get better with each recording. A large part of his success comes from his partners in stage. Pianist Bruce Barth and bassist John Clayton are among the talented team. The program is a celebration of some of the lesser-known tunes of Billy Strayhorn. We enjoyed the mellow tones on ” with Stafford taking off on the solo as well. Tim Warfield (sax) breathes warmth into “My Little Brown Book” and again on “Multicolored Blue” working in concert with Stafford. We also make note of Dana Hall’s work on drums notably on “Johnny Come Lately”. But this is Stafford’s date and he shines throughout the set leading to a very good session.
