O’s Notes: Drummer Arthur Vint leads an octet over eleven contemporary jazz selections. Through The Badlands is an appropriate title for the music as there is definitely a western flavor on many songs. Most of the music is original with seven composed by Vint, two by bassist Ian Stapp along with two covers. Among the best are “Shadow Qualities”, “There’s A World” and “Kindlins” in a unique session.
