O’s Notes: Mark takes us in a different direction for Till I Get It Right. He pairs swinging vocals on top of cool beats anchored by a rhythm section that includes Jamison Trotter (B3, Wurlitzer, p), Dan Lutz (b) and Steve Hass (d). Guest vocalist Cheryl Bentyne joins him for “Cool Duet” and Anthony Wilson plays a beautiful guitar duet with Mark on “Spring Is Where You Are”. The syncopated beats of “lowercase” set us up to appreciate the swinging humor of “Sissies”. We also liked “Evolution”. Winkler’s lyrics are well placed on these tunes making this a fresh and original session.
