O’s Notes: Hibbard plays sax and leads a quintet with Melvin Jones (t), Louis Heriveaux (p), Marc Miller (b) and Justin Varnes (d). They open with “Rude on Purpose” an upbeat tune with catchy hooks followed by the mellow “December 18th” with Mace and Melvin blending brass on the melody. Hibbard wrote most of the music and the tunes are fresh, modern jazz that packs a lot of voltage. Among the best are “Theme for Dos Lyn”, “Slip And Slide” and the beefy Latin vibe of “La Dana Olvidada”.
