O’s Notes: Bassist Kyle Eastwood has a passion for jazz emanating in the 1950s-60s. Andrew McCormack (p), Ernesto Simpson (d), Quentin Collins (t) and Brandon Allen (sax) join him to form a vibrant quintet. Time Pieces focuses on music in this era including arrangements of classics by Herbie Hancock and Horace Silver with originals by Eastwood and the rest of the band. Eastwood plays melodies as well as anchoring the band. The brass is sweet especially on “Peace of Silver” dedicated to the late pianist. We also enjoyed “Bullet Train”, “Blowin’ The Blues Away” and “Prosecco Smile”.
