O’s Notes: Veteran New York City-based guitarist Russ Spiegel leads a core quartet with Tal Cohen (p), Vince Dupont (b), and Brandon Lee Lewis (d) on Timepieces, his latest album. They open with the pleasing sounds of “Greener Pastures” followed by the syncopated “Timepiece”. Jean Caze (t, flugelhorn), Tim Armacost (t-sax), and Javier Nero (tb) join the foursome swinging on “You Stepped Out of A Dream”, and the relaxed “Lydian Dream”. We also enjoyed melodies by guest Hendrik Meurkens (harmonica) notably on “Sidewalk Detour”.
