O’s Notes: Pianist Frank Carlberg teams up with John Hebert (b) and Gerald Cleaver (d) to form a trio playing very adventurous jazz-fusion. All of the music was written by Carlberg reflecting on the sounds he heard during his youth. The Tivoli Trio was a group (trumpet, organ and drums) that accompanied all of the acts at the Helsinki amusement park. Frank combined these memories with those of the cinema and reflecting his memories. The results are thirteen songs that are reflective, lively and curious, as is the mind of a child. We found several that peaked our interest notably “Highwire”, “Harlequin” and “The Chase”. Hats off to Carlberg for this creative initiative.
