O’s Notes: Pianist George Cables leads a romantic engagement in a trio with bassist Essiet Essiet and drummer Victor Lewis. Four of the ten selections are Cable originals and the rest are newly arranged standards, all focused on love. They cook on “Klimpel” and dance on “Roses Poses”, one of two Bobby Hutcherson compositions. The interaction between the band mates is seamless across a range of meters making a set that is not Too Close For Comfort. In fact, we anxiously await the time when we can snuggle up and embrace our friends.
