O’s Notes: Guitarist Michael O’Neill wrote arranged and produced this album of nine selections, a mix of ballads burners and cool tunes. He gets help from Chris Ho (p), Matt VanBenschoten (b), Dave Rennick (d) and a few guest artists. They come out in high gear on “If You Dare” immediately capturing our attention. We hear the influence of Wes Montgomery on “Smooth Sailin” as O’Neill displays dexterity and poise. Lynne Fiddmont sings and scats on “Blue Chill”, the lone vocal track. Michael successfully brings jazz tradition into his world circa 2010, with Touch The Past.
