O’s Notes: Ariel Pocock is a jazz singer and pianist who also plays pump organ. Her vocalizations combine scatting, swinging lyrics and freshly improvised arrangements of eleven classics and one original. Pocock also does a fine job on the keys with strong solos as on “Devil May Care” and “Barrel Roll”. Larry Grenadier (p), Seamus Blake (sax), Julian Lage (g) and Eric Harland (d, perc) go well beyond the role of support shining in the spotlight when called upon. The second half of the program is tilted towards ballads that sooth the pallet making Touchtone a good effort.
