O’s Notes: Tenor saxophonist Stanley Baird leads his band though a dozen contemporary cool selections. We were hooked from the funky riffs of the opener, Wayne Shorter’s “Footprints”. Bassist Marvin Mumford wrote the bulk of the new tunes notably the mellow “Enjoy The Ride”, the seductive “In Every Life” and the upbeat groove of “Just Bob Ya Head”. We also liked their cover of “Ain’t No Sunshine”. This is a solid performance that is a sure shot on the jazzy R&B tip.
