O’s Notes: This is a reissue of 1974 release by European keyboard master van’t Hof, one of his first recordings as a leader. His band, Pork Pie includes guitarist Philip Catherine and guest artist Charlie Mariano on sax and flute. The program is mostly energetic fusion but they also include “Transitory” (Parts1 & 2) and “Pudu Kkottai”, more relaxed and even eerie tunes that serve as a platform for Mariano’s creative genius. Among the best is the rather mellow “Something Wrong”, one of five van’t Hof originals. We also liked “Bassamba (Part 2)”.
