O’s Notes: We know the music of Chet Baker as both hot West Coast bop and dark blue ballads. Claassen tackled 25 of his songs and does them justice. She’s softly scatting and/or using vocalese next to a strong brass performance form Jay Menu (bs) and Jan Wessels (t). Her soft vocals are a welcome soft twist that makes the music really swing. The rhythm section is crisp as well with Karel Boehlee (p), Hein Van de Geyn (b) and John Engels (d). This is definitely one of the best dedications we’ve heard. The more we listened, the more we liked!
