O’s Notes: Drummer, producer, bandleader James Gaiters engages Robert Mason on the B3, tenor saxophonist Edwin Bacardi and guitarist Kevin Turner. Turner’s solo on “Soul Man” and the mellow “Caitlin’s Con Carne” are among the many cool songs. We also enjoyed “Congo Chant” and “Ding Dong”. Gaiters focuses on a throwback groove incorporating soulful jazz. It’s all there on Understanding Reimagined.
