O’s Notes: This is an exciting trio led by pianist Edward Simon. His partners are drummer Brian Blade and bassist John Patitucci, both formidable players who are on their game for this session. Patitucci stands out on “Evolution” giving the trio an energetic infusion that is pervasive throughout the set. On the slower more reflective tracks like “Eastern”, Simon plays a more defining role with sustained, expressive tones. Blade provides the glue and the chemistry between the trio yield good results.
