O’s Notes: Anthony Branker assesses the state of where we are as African Americans in 2013. Much has changed yet much remains frightfully the same. There are numerous threads of dangerous thoughts that continuously threaten acceptance of difference. His attempt with Uppity is to sooth the mind and spirit so that we can take a step in the right direction. The beats are heavily syncopated with the horns interlaced with the rhythm section. The songs are emotional both intense/angry and soothing. Read the liner notes to gain a full appreciation of this work.
